A 1 m³ industrial 3D printer designed to print directly from plastic granules instead of filament. In development; the figures given are design targets, not measured performance.

Problem

Filament feed and throughput constraints become more significant on large parts; the project explores adapting pellet extrusion to additive manufacturing.

Outcome

A design-stage platform targeting a 1 m³ build volume and direct pellet feed; measured print and cost performance is not yet available.

  • Parametric CAD generation (Python / CadQuery)
  • Steel frame design (stiffness validation planned)
  • Granule extrusion head
  • Motion and thermal control

Solution

  • Modelled the frame geometry with parametric CAD
  • Designed the extrusion head for pellet feed
  • Selected commercial components as design inputs
